Results of this European selection: 16th of April 2018. The 3 selected finalists will go to Salamanca from the 30th of May to the 1st of June for the Coimbra Group Annual Conference and to participate in the final of the CG Three Minute Thesis Competition.
Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) celebrates the exciting research conducted by PhD students around the world. Developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), the competition cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills. Presenting in a 3MT competition increases their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience. Competitors are allowed one PowerPoint slide, but no other resources or props.

The Coimbra group is organizing CG 3MT, a “3 minutes thesis” competition in English. Member Universities organize a regional competition to select one candidate for the final competition (more informations), to be held in Salamanca on the 30th of May 2018 and you are invited to participate.

Founded in 1985 and formally constituted by Charter in 1987, the Coimbra Group is an association of long-established European comprehensive, multidisciplinary research universities of high international standard committed to creating special academic and cultural ties in order to promote, for the benefit of its members, internationalization, academic collaboration, excellence in learning and research, and service to society (see http://www.coimbra-group.eu).
In this context, the Doctoral College LR Universities and the Montpellier University Doctoral College are co-organizing a regional competition to select one candidate for the international competition.

The process is as follows:

Candidates must register before February the 9th by sending a short CV with their thesis title and a letter of acceptance from their thesis director. Candidates must prepare a 3 minutes talk describing their thesis subject, in terms that should be understandable by non-specialists. It is possible to prepare one slide illustrating the subject, only one image with no animation. Application form through ADUM is available. Students without any ADUM account must send their email request directly to us at Cette adresse e-mail est protégée contre les robots spammeurs. Vous devez activer le JavaScript pour la visualiser.

An audition will be held on February the 13th in Montpellier. 10 candidates will be selected to prepare for the competition. Transport fees can be paid by the College for PhD students from Nîmes and Perpignan.
These 10 PhD students will be offered a 3-day training session on public speech and scientific mediation, and a course in English.

The Regional competition will be held by the end of March, in front of a multidisciplinary jury. Candidates will be filmed and the video of the selected student will be sent to the Coimbra group for the international competition.

Take this opportunity to improve your skills in scientific mediation and in English communication, and prepare yourself for job and post-doc interviews.
We hope the final winner will be a PhD student from a Languedoc Roussillon University.
